A lot of our Indiana Chevy dealership customers have young children, whom they chauffeur around town on a daily basis.  Since this is so common for our customers, I thought I’d pull together a few resources to help clarify which types of car seats and for what different children’s ages our customers should be using.

Infants should be sitting in a rear-facing infant seat until their 1st birthday and they weigh at least 20 pounds.  Toddlers should move into a rear-facing child seat until they outgrow the height and weight requirements, and then should move into a forward-facing car seat with a full harness until they become too big to fit.

Once your child outgrows their car seat, they should be placed in a booster seat until they fit properly into a regular seat belt, which typically happens somewhere between the ages of 8 and 12.  Children under the age of 13 should remain seated in the back seat of your Chevrolet even after they grow too big for a booster seat.

Since roadside emergencies sometimes, and are often unavoidable, we’ve put together some tips to make sure you and your family are prepared in case your next road trip includes car trouble.

Always keep a charged cell phone in your car.  I don’t advocate using your cell phone while actually driving, but having one available to use in case of an emergency allows you to call 911.  Pre-paid cell phone plans can be a great alternative for those that don’t have a need for a traditional cell phone plan.

You should either buy a pre-made roadside emergency kit, or create your own–it’s fairly easy to do.  You should have a blanket, a basic medical kit, an extra set of warm clothes when it’s cold, a flashlight, and flares in your vehicle.

Make sure your new or used Indianapolis Chevy has a spare tire in case of a flat.  Also, make sure you’ve got all of the tools you’ll need in order to change the tire.  Sometimes a can of temporary tire foam will be enough of a fix to allow you to drive to repair shop.
